Principles for building great products
One way to think about product is something you purchase from a business. Its the classic definition — I go to a shoe shop, I purchase the shoe, done.
Another way to think about product is to look at everything like a product and go from "something you pay money for" to "something you want".
Someone once said: "I look at everything like its a deal" and this is perhaps a better definition — a product is a deal.
For me a good product has the following. It should:
- Look good
- Be good
- Make money
Most things of value that we like have these qualities. Said differently, the things we want are Simple, Useful, Reliable, Performant, and Aesthetic — usually in that order.
And it just turns out that people pay money for things like these in exchange. Or perhaps something that "YOU" want.
